ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the general occupational demands and skill of lorry driving. It also describes the lorry driver's wider work environment with particular reference to the structure of the industry and the institutions which it contains. The conclusion of the chapter deals with the way in which the industry has evolved and the relationship between the institutions with its consequent impact on the lorry driver's role.
