ABSTRACT

HERE we test the hypotheses reviewed in the last chapter, to see how far they correlate with interaction between neighbours. As far as possible, the general approach of the earlier chapters will again be adopted. The data from different sets of interviews will be compared, to see how far developments took place; and the use of the control group will help us to determine how far these developments were due to rehousing itself. The range of material which was collected enabled us to make brief tests of most of the hypotheses which were considered in the last chapter. In particular, a very detailed test of the homogeneity hypothesis will be made in Chapter Eleven. Wherever possible, comparisons are made with the Abingdon, Easthampstead and Slough families.
