ABSTRACT

THIS survey of research on the neighbourhood discusses some of the factors which account for variations in behaviour and attitudes toward the neighbours. It presents these factors and attempts a rough assessment of their importance. In Chapters Ten and Eleven, behaviour and attitudes towards the neighbours at Berinsfield will be examined. Each is given a separate chapter, because they are by no means identical. 1 Most writers do not, however, distinguish between them. In the present chapter, we shall therefore assume that their hypotheses apply to both behaviour and attitudes.
