ABSTRACT

It would seem appropriate in a study such as this to conclude with recommendations for an alternative role for education as part of borstal training. The chapter, therefore, begins with a summary of the important factors relating to education to have emerged from the study, and continues by outlining an alternative role for education as part of borstal training. There follows a discussion on the organizational and structural changes which would be necessary to implement an alternative educational role, and the chapter ends with a discussion on research and development work which, it is argued, should be an essential part of experiment and change in education in borstal.
