ABSTRACT
It would far exceed the scope of a single chapter to enumerate all the educational developments in Germany under Allied occupation. In any case the result would merely be to confuse the picture by a mass of detail. 1 The situation, it must be borne in mind, has been and still remains fluid. Our purpose here is to describe and assess some of the main factors; generally speaking, we shall restrict our survey to the first two years of the occupation.
