ABSTRACT

THE question who are Psychiatric Social Workers, has up to the present received no firm empirical answer. This chapter presents certain basic information which has been collected on all students qualifying as psychiatric social workers up to 1962. This will enable us for the first time to discover the number who have trained, their ages, their academic qualifications, and their work experience before training. In order to obtain the necessary data information was collected from the training centres. These are the London School of Economics, and the Courses at Edinburgh established in 1945, Manchester, 1947, and Liverpool, 1954. 1
