ABSTRACT
In the British colony of Kenya, East Africa, Mau Mau, a secret anticolonial movement, emerged after World War II, reflecting both the political frustration of mass nationalism in a white settler colony and religious transition within an African people. Originating in the Kikuyu tribe, Mau Mau called not only for the expulsion of the British from Kenya but also for a return to ancient African customs.
