ABSTRACT

It is a necessary consequence of the extension of the association process, by the involvement of the large as sociation areas of the brain, that experience should bring about extensive association between the instincts. Whereas each instinct taken by itself is accompanied by its specific affective quality, that is its own emotion, when two or more instincts are aroused at the same time there will naturally result a much more complicated emotional state.
