ABSTRACT

According to the results of experimental research, effects seem to be demonstrable with figural structures, which deserve to be described as inherent in the structure, as transcending the “elements”. Hence these have been regarded as supporting the gestalt theory. We proceed to consider certain findings upon the influence of gestalten on the qualitative determination of the single points of the field. In these findings it is shown how the single points of the field are determined in their colour quality, not by the single, specific action of the stimulus at the particular place concerned (cf. the constancy hypothesis), but by some sort of “gestalt moments” which transcend it.
