ABSTRACT

That the chemical constitution of the tissues is something more basic than the build or physique almost goes without saying. Morphological patterns are only cues to personality. There is no apparent causal relationship between mesomorphy and aggressive personality except in the sense that well-developed muscles will be more useful in combat, and will perhaps be more likely to precipitate action, whereas the presence or absence of certain hormones, calcium, phosphorus, or iron may actually be instrumental in inducing a particular state of mind or initiating a mode of behavior. To a certain extent this was assumed in the ancient doctrine of temperament as a function of the humors.
