ABSTRACT
Although the revision, or rather the supplementation, has exceeded the space allotment originally agreed upon, many students would doubtless spot a lacuna were we to omit all reference to the awesome period we are living in. “ Awesome “ is an unusual word to employ in connection with time, and yet one can confidently declare that there has never been a generation like ours. Apart from the most terrible war in history, and the still more horrible events which were not the direct results of the war, such as the deliberate snuffing out of millions of innocent lives, we have now come to the critical stage as to our very existence. Can we afford to treat our own decade, with its atomic revelations and practices, as any other decade, to which the conception of character might apply ?
