ABSTRACT
Aneurosis, especially when it suddenly breaks out in a person previously in seeming good health, has the appearance of something bizarre, foreign and devoid of all continuity with the rest of the individual’s mental life. No data within the reach of his consciousness serve satisfactorily to explain its advent or its meaning, or to connect it with the main trends of his ordinary thought. The malady appears not to be of endopsychic origin, but more as if the mind had been invaded by a strange something which, like an infectious disease or a demoniac possession, would have origin primarily from without.
