ABSTRACT
WHEN we find a memory in a dream, hysterical phenomenon or other phenomenon, which we have to consider as reaction of an unconscious motive, this means: Something in the present situation agrees with something in the past or should agree with it. The same rule holds good when upon closer consideration, a manifestation turns out to be a reminiscence.
