To take the most accomplished modern advocate of, X, the theory of Beauty, as pleasure – ‘Beauty’, says Dr Santayana, is ‘pleasure regarded as a quality of a thing’. All pleasures are intrinsic and positive values, and beauty is constituted by the objectification of pleasure (Plate J).
