ABSTRACT

This study sets out to consider, by way of ethnographic description, the regard, ideas and expectations the Igbo hold of womanhood in their traditional communities; in other words, women in Igbo life and thought. A new analysis of Igbo women, by an Igbo woman, is long overdue. This study also aims to offer a felt response to some prevalent views about the true image of a woman in modern Nigerian society as a whole.
