ABSTRACT
Located in north central Africa, landlocked Chad extends from the Sahara Desert in the north - and its border with Libya - to tropical Africa in the south where it shares borders with Cameroon and the Central African Republic and to Niger and Nigeria in the west and Sudan in the east. Chad has an overall land area of 1,271,000 square kilometres (490,700 square miles), about twice the size of France.
