ABSTRACT
Located on the west coast of Africa, Liberia (Land of Liberty/Land of Freedom) forms a significant part of the African tropical rainforest belt. It has a total land area of 111,400 square kilometres (43,000 square miles), and prior to its devastating civil war which began in 1989, Liberia's rapidly growing population stood at 2.5 million. A land of diversified cultural and tourist attractions, Liberia's history is built on its many ethnic groups and languages.
