ABSTRACT
Situated in the heart of West Africa, the Republic of Mali is a landlocked nation of some 1,204,000 square kilometres (464,900 square miles). It is bordered to the east by Niger and Burkina Faso, to the west by Senegal and Mauritania, to the north by Algeria and to the south by Cote d'Ivoire and Guinea.
