ABSTRACT

Located in south central Africa and surrounded by Zambia to the north, Malawi to the northeast, South Africa to the south and Botswana to the southwest, Zimbabwe is a landlocked country of 390,300 square kilometres (150,700 square miles), with a population of 10.9 million, 95 per cent of whom are Shona and Ndebele people of Bantu extraction. Shona constitute 70 per cent of the population and are made up of Karanga, Zezuru, Manyika, Ndau and Korekore ethnic groups.
