ABSTRACT

The country of the Wei-wu-rh or Uigurs is marked on the ancient map on the eastern border of the Middle Empire. The Si pei ti list has under the head of “Country of the Wei-wu-rh” a short note stating that in the year 1283 post-stations were established there in four places (cities), and also a treasury was founded for the exchange of paper money. A full account of the Uigurs has been given in Part II., to which I beg to refer.
