ABSTRACT

The purpose of the revelations of this chapter was to meet the charge 9f imposture brought by the Quraish against 1[uhammaJ. Xo direct refutation is attempted. The stories of the destruction of other nations and peoples who had rejected their prol'hets are briefly narrateq. Throughout these stories the prophets Xoah, Hud, &ilih, Lot, and Moses are represented as messengers of GOO in all respects like MuhallllPad, as opposed by unbelievers of the same char:.lcter as the Quraish, and as charged by the infidels of their day ,\'ith irupo..'>- ture. The inference from each story is th.1t 1[ullalllmad is a tru,' prophet, and that his persl.<)utors are doomed to destruction for their impiety in rejecting him.
