Museums of the Underside

The Recent Attention Given by anthropologists to museums is welcome, but too narrow in scope. All museums can be seen as museums of ethnography. Jonathan Webber, among the first to advance this argument, is currently exploring its implications with his dedicated fieldwork in one of the world's most agonizing museums, that which has grown up in the Auschwitz and Birkenau murder camp complex. ¹
