The classification that most readily suggested itself as a startingpoint was a division into inhibited, or too little, and demonstrative, or too much, behaviour, such as was conceptually fixed for us by Jung31 with his terms introversion and extraversion. But, as Jung also found, it soon proved necessary to subdivide these two categories. More detailed study suggested, indeed, that they each comprised a number of distinct reaction patterns, and that the dichotomy of introversion/extraversion was of limited diagnostic value.
