ABSTRACT

In Chapter 2 we identified and estimated the approximate size of the former in-patient population in employment, and Chapter 3 examined the current provision designed for the support of this group. These were the preliminaries to our main objective, which is to look in more detail at the characteristics of this population. There are many methodological problems involved in the design of such an investigation. We will consider some of them and describe the series of studies undertaken, which were designed to illuminate different facets of the overall problem.
