ABSTRACT

Dr Chowdhry and I started by talking to Dr Sarabhai. We went on for the whole of the first day. On the second day Dr Chowdhry and I visited Baroda without Dr Sarabhai. We met the senior managers resident there and discussed how the various companies on the site coordinated their activities and shared common services. We toured the plants and, without making any detailed studies, refreshed our memories at first hand about differences and similarities in the technologies used. Most discussions started with our confirming that our respondents knew why we were in Baroda and what our intentions were; we went on to ask about tasks and problems associated with them, and discussed their and our possible solutions, if any.
