ABSTRACT
In the new Sarabhai Chemicals acting appointments in the managing systems were confirmed. On Mr Kale's advice Dr Vakil was appointed manager of the purchasing operating system with immediate effect. During March he had made an extensive tour of Eastern Europe, opening negotiations for supplies of raw materials from countries to whom payment in rupees was officially recognized and acceptable. This additional experience together with the work done to reduce the overall but ill-defined scope of the former Central Purchasing department to a more precisely defined responsibility had made it possible for somebody other than Dr Sarabhai's personal representative to discharge it.
