ABSTRACT
Introduction CPAprovidesastrictframeworkforalogicalsequenceofactivities,with well-defineddurations.Practicalprojectsmayhavelooselydefinedsequences ofactivities,withdurationswhicharedifficulttoestimate.Sinceoftenthe mainvalueofCPAistogiveapowerfulplanningtoolwherenoneexisted previously,theseloosenessesindefinitionsmaystillbetolerated.However, inmanyprojects,especiallylargeonesco-ordinatingmanytypesofsubcontractorwithdifferingdegreesofsophistication,potentialerrorsinestimatingdurationsmaybesignificant.Theresultingerrorsinestimating projecttimesandlossofprojectcontrolmaybesoconsiderableastorequire amoredetailedassessmentandtreatmentoftheproblem.Thisisdonehere; theproblemsoflooselydefinedlogicalsequences,whichmaybecome severeinspeculativeorresearchanddevelopmentprojects,istreatedin Chapter9.
