ABSTRACT
Often we are socialised into a series of assumptions and prejudices embedded in the language that we are given and find. The agencies of this socialisation – family, culture, the media (Althusser’s Ideological State Apparatuses) – often can seem to work together to provide a uniform vision. Althusser uses the expression ‘in teeth-gritting harmony’. This is not just about what we say but also what we see.
