ABSTRACT

Whilst we introduced the previous extract with the notion that there is no substitute for the original writing of key theorists it’s still worth looking at the way in which a writer’s work is represented and reproduced in popular cultural forms. Even when the purpose of using a theorist’s work in, say, a film, is humorous essential features of the theorist’s work still leak through. Furthermore, even if those ideas are misrepresented the fact that they are still tells us a lot about those ideas. And what does it tell us about ourselves that we want to enjoy film-makers making fun of Freud’s ideas?
