ABSTRACT

Of course much communication theory is practically inclined, none more so than that pertaining to group communication. Here much of the research has a business bias and is directed in a serious way to maximising output (that is, productivity). In businesses of various kinds the dynamics of group work is more than an abstract idea, it often determines the difference between success and failure. ‘Leadership’ in these contexts often reads as ‘management’ and is concerned with strategies of motivation and coercion: persuading by coaxing or pressurising.
