ABSTRACT

Homi Bhabha (1996) uses Jacques Lacan's concept of 'camouflage' to suggest that the real problem of differentiation in the contemporary is not distance but proximity The problem is of perceived similitude by those lvho feel too close: 'All the affect, anxiety disavo\val comes not at the point at lvhich differences can be binarized or polarized. The problem of mistranslation - these happen because differences are, complexly in some ways very small (Bhabha 1996:63).
