ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I consider Marx's critique of Ricardo's analysis of non-labour incomes. The centrepiece of Marx's critique of all political economy was its general failure to isolate the category of surplus Value as logically prior to its appearance in the phenomenal forms of rent, profit and interest (TSV, I, 40). Political economists, including Ricardo, had not explained the origin of non-labour incomes before these phenomena were subjected to analysis.
