ABSTRACT

after long negotiations the Calico Printers’ Association Ltd was formed in November 1899. Mr Ernest Crewdson, of Messrs Jones, Crewdson and Youatt, the firm of accountants who carried out the valuations, was the actual promoter of the amalgamation, but he had the support of most of the important members of the trade. The combine was very different from that which could have been achieved in 1892, when the suggestion for an amalgamation was first put forward; it now attracted the leading firms and covered 85 per cent of the capacity of the industry.
