ABSTRACT

Kingdom since the British introduced indirect rule in the area by the Toro Agreement of 1900.

In 1962, when the new Toro Agreement was being pre pared, the Konzo and Amba submitted a claim for equal status with the Toro within the Agreement. This was refused by the Toro government, and subsequently the Konzo and Amba broke out in open revolt. Simultaneously they submitted a claim to the Uganda Central Government that their area should be declared a separate District, to be named Rwenzururu. This claim has not been granted, although it is still being pressed.
