ABSTRACT

I SHALL TAKE U P THE SUBJECT from the physical anthropology point of view, i.e., examine the influence of some ecological factors on the physical differ-ences exhibited by the human populations of sub-Saharian Africa. Human physical characteristics are conditioned by two groups of factors,

heredity and environment, the relative importance of which differ according to the characteristic under consideration. Blood groups, for instance, are entirely conditioned by the individual's genotype; stature and weight are conditioned both by genotype and environment, the relative influence of genotype being more marked on stature than on weight.
