ABSTRACT
We have stated that anthropological observation and description deal with standardized, task-like patterns of behaviour. Wherever we touch upon the realm of things we call ‘social’, we touch upon material of that nature. Its definition must also be the definition of the basic units that can be isolated in that totality of human behaviour which is culture or society.
