Professor Meade wrote this account of his life on the occasion of his Nobel Memorial lecture, ‘The Meaning of “Internal Balance”’, delivered in Stockholm on 8 December 1977 (see Chapter 21 below). He has added a postscript (in 1986) to bring the story up to date.
