ABSTRACT

After the Law Mission to Washington in September–October 1943 (see above p. 27) further Anglo-American discussions on post-war economic policy were delayed until the end of 1944 by disputes within the British Government. The following paper, which Meade wrote in December 1943 during those disputes, is included here as an indication of Meade's views on the post-war international economic order at that time; for his views after the war see Chapters 6 and 10 below. (Meade Papers 3/2; Public Record Office T230/15 and CAB124/582; The Collected Writings of John Maynard Keynes, Vol. XXVI: Activities 1941–1946, Shaping the Post-war World: Bretton Woods and Reparations, London: Macmillan, 1980, Chapter 2.)
