ABSTRACT

From Lloyds Bank Review, no. 7 (January 1948), pp. 1–18. With respect to the 1947 draft Wheat Agreement mentioned in footnote 3 below, Meade had been involved in interdepartmental discussions in Whitehall surrounding the conference. He was also consulted, even though he had left government service, by the UK delegation when negotiations on an International Wheat Agreement resumed in Washington in January 1948. (His suggested amendments to the draft Agreement were adopted by the UK delegation but not accepted by the other participants.) (Public Record Office MAF83I1665 and MAF84/817 and 818; Meade Papers 312, 316 and 3113.) For his continuing interest in commodity schemes see Chapters 18 and 20 below.
