ABSTRACT
In most West European countries additions to the labour force came from several sources – from demographic increases of indigenous population and from immigration of foreign labour as well as from changing ‘activity’ rates, i.e. the number of persons in employable age groups who in fact offered themselves for employment and the hours they worked while employed.
