ABSTRACT
The importance of the industrial sector-including mining and construction-in the British economy made dramatic progress between the end of the Napoleonic wars and the 1830s, so that industry rose to take precedence over other activities. After that period its relative importance only increased slowly. However this stabilization should not hide the dynamism of the industrial sector and the considerable transformation it experienced. This showed three main tendencies.
