ABSTRACT

‘Tis out of women's sphere, they say To bear the burdens of the day In out-door, manual labour; And that a woman should be strong And like such work, is very wrong Well, to her weaker neighbour. But work does not degrade the mind, And purer morals oft we find ‘Mong field-girls and pit wenches Than in the salons of the rich, With culture at its highest pitch So high, it feeling quenches.
