ABSTRACT
The wave of immigration into Palestine after the First World War included many young intellectuals who had been influenced by the revolutionary socialist movements during and after the War. They were strongly nationalist, both emotionally and intellectually, and aimed to build up a Jewish homeland on a socialist basis. They were looking for a satisfactory synthesis.
