ABSTRACT

It had been an establisl~ed tradition for many years t l~at the IIouse of Lords sliould pays any Bill dealing wit11 finance. But tlie 'People's Budget' was too tnucl~ for them. They rejected i t by a large majority, claiming that it was not an ordinary financial measure but a disguised aitack upon one particular class-tl~eir own. The Commons' retott came two days latet. They nioved and carried a resolutioo condemning the I-Iouse of Lords, and Parliament was dissolved.
