ABSTRACT
Charles Lloyd’s brother Sampson went to live in Birmingham much earlier in life than his old father or his elder brother were to do, but before entering the iron trade there he had already been farming for twelve years in Herefordshire. By the time he moved to the town in 1698, at the age of thirty-four, he had been married, had had four daughters, become a widower, married again and had two sons.
