ABSTRACT
In art the times are out of joint, saturated with the trivial and the corrupt; there is an enormous need for the critical intelligence to devote itself to this paradox— to explain, unmask, and diagnose in such a way as to work toward a reconstruction and a purification. Great criticism is almost by definition a recall to order and to value.
