ABSTRACT
(Women) who did not live up to the ideal were perceived as a menace to society and the nation, threatening the established order they were intended to uphold. Hence the deep hatred for women as revolutionary figures, almost surpassing the disdain which established society reserved for male revolutionaries. Woman as a symbol of liberty and revolution…contradicted the “feminine” values of respectability and rootedness.
