ABSTRACT
We are a very naive public about the processes of social change, and that naivete is not accidental. This culture doesn't encourage us to think about transformation as a process. Instead, we are addicted to notions of radical revolutionary moments that transform everything overnight. We have difficulty recognizing the notion of struggle in protracted terms, which requires both a critical vigilance and a willingness to alter strategies when they aren't working. Rather than changing strategies, we see people falling back on what they feel worked at a different moment in time.
