ABSTRACT

By casting this study as an actor-oriented ethnography, I have made an effort to report the perspectives of the respondents, informants, and the existing literature. In so doing, I have minimized my personal views. In concluding this book, I would like to add my personal perceptions and interpretations to the questions I have raised during the course of this study: Why have Japanese industries come to the American South? Do they replicate the industrial-relations model used in Japan? What are the Southerners’ reactions?
