ABSTRACT

THE BIGGEST PLEASURES I OBSERVED around CAD/CAM technology lay neither in the engineering experience of control, nor in the utopian vision of a machine arriving, knocking down the barrier between design and manufacturing, and streamlining the production process. Rather, they lay in a derivative vision, a vision that depended for its fulfillment upon hordes of people and companies ardently pursuing the dream of competitiveness through technology. It was the image of making lots of money from investments in the CAD/CAM industry itself.
